Sudbury News: Garson Power Outage at Wanapitei Lake

More than 1,100 people in the Greater Sudbury area were without power Sunday due to the replacement of utility poles.

A planned power outage at Baileys Corner on Oct. 27 affects customers in Garson and Skead, according to Hydro One’s outage map.

Dip poles at the Baileys Corner distribution station are being replaced and Greater Sudbury Utilities (GSU) said approximately 280 Sudbury Hydro customers in Falconbridge would also be affected.

The outage was scheduled for 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., GSU ​​said, but Hydro One’s outage map shows the restoration time is 4 p.m.

“Greater Sudbury Hydro has contacted all affected residential customers via automated telephone calls to inform them of the upcoming power outages,” a news release states.

“We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.”

Hydro One said 656 customers in Garson are affected as well as 478 customers in Baileys Corner in Skead.

Two more planned outages will occur in Greater Sudbury on Sunday.

A four-hour outage, from 8 a.m. to midday, affected approximately 21 customers in the area of ​​Anthony Street and Regent Street in the city’s hospital area.

Fifteen additional South End customers were expected to be without power on Green Avenue between 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
