PREVIEW: Red Wings host Oilers on Sunday to cap off back-to-back weekend

Lalonde said he wants to see better offensive execution from Detroit after its 5-3 loss to the Buffalo Sabers at KeyBank Center on Saturday.

“They’re always a tough team,” Lalonde said of the Sabres, who held the Red Wings scoreless on two power-play opportunities. “They lead in most of the underlying numbers offensively. There’s a handful of them, and I think most of them (goalie Alex Lyon) did a good job for us.

Mortiz Seider, who recorded two assists against Buffalo, said he felt Detroit wasn’t sharp enough to start Saturday morning, which unfortunately put the Red Wings in a two-goal deficit in the first period .

“These first few games we have to make sure we don’t run from behind or chase,” Seider said. “We need to learn it and take a better step in preparation.”

Seider stressed that the Red Wings can’t afford to get off to a slow start against offensively talented teams like the Sabres.

“If you give them time and space, they have some talented guys,” Seider said. “They will find ways to report you, and that’s exactly what happened.” Once we did a better job, I think we definitely found more rhythm in the game, created chances and had some really good looks at 5v5 in their zone.
