Stunt driver in Ottawa: 17-year-old accused of driving 188 km/h on highway. 417

A 17-year-old driver from Ottawa was caught driving nearly 90 km/h over the speed limit on Highway 417.

Ontario Provincial Police said they arrested the driver, who only held a G2 novice license, around 6 p.m. Saturday evening.

Police caught the driver going 188 km/h while the posted speed limit is 100 km/h in urbanized areas of Ottawa.

“It’s the phone call no parent wants to receive. ‘Your child has been arrested, your vehicle impounded,'” OPP said on X.

The driver was charged with stunt driving, dangerous driving and improper use of a HOV lane.

In Ontario, stunt and reckless driving charges result in an immediate 30-day driver’s license suspension and 14-day vehicle impoundment.

Drivers found guilty can receive a fine of up to $10,000, six demerit points and imprisonment of up to six months.
