No derby for the Broadside | RACING.COM

Cox Plate placegetter Broadsiding will not take part in Saturday’s Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) at Flemington, with a race on Champion Stakes Day now favored for the prized colt.

Godolphin trainer James Cummings confirmed the Derby was off Broadsiding’s radar during Monday’s launch of Melbourne Cup week.

Cummings said the Too Darn Hot colt had come through the memorable Cox Plate race, where he beat opponents like Mr Brightside and Docklands, in good order.

Three-time Group 1 winner Broadsiding should have been favorite for Saturday’s G1 classic and his withdrawal leaves last Saturday’s Spring Champion Stakes winner El Castello at the top of the market ahead of Vase (2040m) winner Red Aces.

Broadsiding is scheduled to run in either the $3 million Champions Stakes (2000m) or the $3 million Champions Mile (1600m) at Flemington on November 9.
