Injured ‘starving’ stray cat shows up outside rescuer’s house, learns to trust

An injured stray cat wandered onto a family’s property at feeding time, but was too shy to ask for food. SO, he kept introducing himself over and over again, until he finally finds the courage to befriend them.

In a viral TikTok video shared in September by @murdock_grayson, the tuxedo tabby, now named Levi, can be seen randomly appearing on the landing of the stairs of the family’s apartment in Tumon, Guam, watching them feed their cat, Artemis.

“A new kitten wandered onto our floor at feeding time at 2 a.m. He immediately ran away but reappeared the next day. I wanted to try to make friends with him, he must be really hungry,” the stopover text reads in the clip.

On this occasion, the family fed Artemis separately to avoid arguments over food, while Levi waited patiently at a distance. Then they prepare stray dog with foodgiving him the choice between wet food or chow in case he likes one or the other.

“He was really hungry, he was a wet food boy of course. We could see he had a shoulder injury. He came back a few days later! He made sure he was well fed with a full belly,” the text continues.

“He’s coming more often and getting closer to trusting. I still can’t get close enough to pet him, but we’re making progress. Hoping to catch him soon and get him spayed and treated.” News week contacted @murdock_grayson for comment via TikTok comments. We have not been able to verify the details of the case.

Each year, more than 6.3 million pets enter shelters in the United States, and of those, approximately 920,000 end up being euthanized, often due to lack of space in the facilities. This is why it is important, if you find a stray cat, to contact a veterinarian and have it sterilized.

British charity Cats Protection says the first thing to do when you find a homeless cat on the street is to understand whether it is stray or feral. These are not domesticated and you risk injury when handling them if you are not an expert.

How do you know if the cat is stray or wild? The first clue is in their appearance: if they’re a little skinny or underweight, there’s a chance they’re a stray. Stray cats also tend to wander alone, while wild cats remain in coloniesand they rarely approach humans.

Their behavior is another telltale sign. Stray cats usually look confused, as if they have just arrived in a new place; Wild cats, on the other hand, generally know their territory very well. In addition, stray animals like to hang out near homes, closer to people.

Once you have established that it is a stray animal, can you keep it if you wish? The British animal charity Blue Cross says that when you take the cat to the vet, they will be able to find out if it is microchipped, if it does not have an owner and if you feel that you can give him a good life. , you can definitely keep it.

Unfortunately, the poster and his family weren’t able to keep little Levi. In a shared update earlier in October, the poster said they took the cat to the vet and had it treated and neutered, before releasing it outside after failing to find someone to feed it.

“We would have loved to make him an indoor cat, unfortunately our household already has 9 indoor cats in a small condo and all other rescues and fosters are full. This overpopulation is out of control and is preventing good cats like Levi to be adopted. young kittens,” writes the poster.

The video quickly went viral on social media and has so far received over 1.1 million views and over 179,000 likes on the platform.

One user, Loveswinter123holly, commented: “Oh he looks so nice. I like the name Levi for him. I pray you catch this sweet boy real soon.”

Meg posted: “Thank you for caring for the little voices we can’t hear.”

Fluffy added: “Sometimes I wonder if these cats tell other cats where to find food or something like ‘this person is so nice’.”
