Mix of rain and snow possible Wednesday in Denver. Winter weather warning in the mountains

DENVER – Enjoy Monday’s unusually warm temperatures as a storm system targets Colorado this week, which is expected to bring accumulating snow to higher elevations and a mix of rain, light snow and severe frost to the region metro Denver by Wednesday.

“It’s a good start to the week, but we’re tracking a pretty powerful storm that’s expected to bring widespread precipitation across Colorado,” Denver7 meteorologist Katie LaSalle said. “It’s not a major snow event for us in the Denver metro area, but we have the potential for a rain-snow mix and for Halloween, we’re getting rid of it.”

Here is an overview of the Denver weather timeline.

Monday will be the hottest day of the week as the afternoon high temperature will reach near 80 degrees, closing in on the record high of 82°.

Tuesday morning, conditions are expected to remain mostly dry in Denver as rain and snow continue to fall in Colorado’s higher elevations before rain begins to move into the metro in the afternoon.

Tuesday’s high temperature will drop to 62 degrees in Denver and Wednesday’s temperature will only rise to 45 degrees with morning rain and snow showers possible.

“Overnight, cold air moves in and we will see rain turn to snow through Wednesday morning – and we have a chance of that happening as the day goes on – but this should dissipate in the afternoon and evening. said Denver7 meteorologist Stacey Donaldson.

Heavier snowfall is expected in the mountains of central and southwest Colorado, Donaldson said.

“We’re looking at small amounts west of the metro and for Denver. We will have this rain mixed with snow and we don’t expect a good covering for Denver, but we pass through southwest Colorado where a winter weather advisory begins Monday and lasts through Wednesday.

A winter weather advisory is in effect from Monday 9 p.m. to Wednesday noon. for the eastern Sawatch Mountains – above 11,000 feet – for between 8 and 13 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Boulder.

A winter weather advisory will also go into effect for the La Garita Mountains. from Monday 9 p.m. to Tuesday 3 p.m.

Aspen, Vail, Snowmass, Crested Butte, Telluride, among other higher elevation communities, could see between 5 and 11 inches of snow where a The winter weather advisory will come into effect Monday at 6 p.m.

“As we get later tonight into Tuesday morning, we will see more widespread precipitation impacting the southwest corner of the state, with heavy rain and snow at times – as travel into the mountains could be difficult from Tuesday to at least Wednesday morning,” added LaSalle.

Communities across the urban corridor will experience a chance of a rain/snow mix on Wednesday, but accumulations will not be significant.

“It shouldn’t cause a huge disruption in terms of travel because the roadway has been very warm and has only the rain mix possible,” LaSalle said.

By Halloween Thursday, the afternoon high temperature is expected to be around 57 degrees with no precipitation in the Denver weather forecast.

Temperatures on Friday will reach the 60s before weekend high temperatures in Denver will be in the upper 50s with some clouds Saturday and Sunday.
