Manitoba Weather: Warm Front Before Halloween

It’s hard to believe Halloween is just days away with Monday’s rising temperatures in Winnipeg and southern Manitoba.

Daytime highs will climb into the mid-teens thanks to a warm front over the region today.

Winnipeg is expected to reach a balmy 14°C. For comparison, the normal daytime temperature is now only 5°C.

Most areas will also enjoy sunshine or a mix of sun and clouds. Strong, gusty winds may be less pleasant.

Conditions are similar in northwestern Ontario.

The warm front is associated with a low pressure system over Saskatchewan that is moving eastward.

As the low approaches, it will spread rain and snow to parts of northern Manitoba today and tonight.

Areas further south, including Thompson, will experience showers this afternoon. Areas further north will experience a mix of rain and snow or pure snow.

Snowfall of up to 5 to 10 cm is possible.

Freezing rain is possible along the transition zone which is expected to extend approximately from Lynn Lake to Churchill.

That said, temperatures are still relatively warm in the north, so precipitation accumulations will likely be low.

Tonight, clouds will first build up over the southwest before moving southeast before morning.

Tuesday will be cloudy and cooler in Winnipeg, but temperatures will still be a few degrees above the season.

The sun and more seasonal temperatures return mid-week.

Ghosts and goblins will want to dress warmly under their Halloween costumes. The forecast high for Thursday is 5°C under a mix of sun and cloud, but as the sun sets during prime time, temperatures will cool quickly.
