Lacy Lakeview man tried to strangle his girlfriend who valiantly fought him off, affidavit says

LACY LAKEVIEW, Texas (KWTX) Charmist Hays, 60, was charged with assault/domestic violence by strangulation after he assaulted his then-girlfriend by choking her in July 2024, according to an affidavit.

According to the affidavit, Lacy Lakeview police arrived at the apartment complex in the 4300 block of Meyers Lane around 12:03 a.m. July 10 to investigate the assault.

Police found the victim, identified as Hays’ girlfriend, “crying, shaking and having difficulty speaking,” according to the affidavit.

Officers learned that Hays and the victim initially got into a verbal argument before Hays began assaulting her by pushing her onto a couch and choking her.

According to the affidavit, that’s when Hays began taunting the victim, telling her, “you’ll never forget this.” The man also threatened to kill her, police wrote in the affidavit.

According to the document, the victim tried to push Hays away, causing Hays to choke her harder to the point she couldn’t breathe and began to pass out.

Hays then dragged the victim off the couch and onto the floor by her legs, but she managed to get rid of her by “grabbing her private part,” the affidavit states.

Hays fled the scene once the woman called for help.

He was arrested on October 25 and is currently being held at the McLennan County Jail on $8,000 bail.
