Will growing medical marijuana for personal use be allowed?

(WKYT)—When it comes to medical marijuana, the good question of the day is: Will they allow anyone to grow for personal use?

No, if you have a medical cannabis card, you will need to obtain it from a licensed dispensary.

The creation of the medical cannabis program does not change any penalties for growing marijuana in Kentucky, even if it is for personal use.

Five or more plants constitute a felony. Less than five is a misdemeanor for the first offense.

The exception will be those who have obtained a license to cultivate it under the medical marijuana program.

There was an effort earlier this year by Louisville Rep. Nima Kulkarni to pass a law that would have made it legal for anyone over the age of 21 to possess what they call a personal use amount of cannabis . This would have included up to five marijuana plants.

This bill never made it out of committee.
