7 “outdated” beauty trends that are coming back in 2025

It has been proven time and time again that what goes around most certainly comes around. It doesn’t matter if it’s clothes that have been sitting in your attic since the 1990s or haircuts that you thought you gave up on in the 1970s. Trends tend to reinvent themselves with a more modern perspective and masterful effect, and we’d be lying if we said we weren’t happy to see some beauty techniques and products from the decades past come back in style.

Forget “Outdated” beauty tips; let’s celebrate those who are currently the latest trends of 2025. Here are 7 old-fashioned beauty trends that are making a comeback this year.

While the classic French manicure returned to the fold last year – and temporarily replaced Funny Bunny and Bubble Bath –neutral nails are being overlooked in favor of something a little more exciting this year: red nails.

During the holidays, deep cherry red nails tend to be all the rage, and nothing will ever compare to the instant confidence that three coats of Big Apple Red provide. And, when it comes to nail colors for februarynothing beats a classic red; or summer, when coral red reigns supreme.

Neutral nails make you feel put together, but red nails make you feel like a powerhouse, which is exactly the energy to carry into 2025.

“Blowout” Haircuts

While sleek bobs and super shaggy cuts have reigned supreme on two ends of the spectrum in recent years, there has been a shift toward a more natural, low-maintenance option: the “blowout” cut.

With layers that start below the chin and frame your face in such a flattering way, this hairstyle is meant to exude the confidence and effortless chic attitude of the quintessential 1990s model cuts (think Cindy Crawford and Claudia Schiffer ). It’s impossible not to feel confident with a new rash swinging with every step, and that’s exactly what you should ask at the salon.

While liquid makeup has completely overhauled most of our routines — and rightly so for a youthful, glowing finish — there is one product that has proven to be an exception: powder blush. And for the most part.

Applying too generous an amount of blush has become the trend of the 2020s, primarily as a way to make a statement with even the most subtle makeup. Basically, blush is supposed to evoke a healthy, glowing complexion. While some liquid formulas are worth your money, it’s time to start finishing with touches of powder blush to set everything and contour the tops of your cheekbones, both in the blush-heavy eras of the 1930s and 1980s.

Velcro rollers

Speaking of enviable blowouts, there are many techniques and tools out there to try to achieve the bouncier, more voluminous subtle curl, but none have ever topped the result of a series of curls. classic velcro rollers you may have seen your grandmother use.

Many Southerners may even have vivid memories of being dropped off at school while their mothers still carried rolls of Velcro, but that doesn’t mean we should let those stories keep us from knowing the truth. If you can master them, you’ll never use anything other than curlers, which is exactly why they’ve stuck around and completely taken over the hair styling world recently. Don’t knock them until you try them.

Semi-matte lipstick

While lip gloss has largely remained the favorite hit for the past two decades, a more natural finish lipstick is slowly gaining popularity as a better alternative. It’s not matte in the way of those drying, peeling matte lipsticks from the 2010s, but rather a hydrating, but not shiny finish, more characteristic of traditional lipsticks you’ll find in department stores.

The nuances of the day are meant to be much more flattering on your own natural lip color tone, like rosy pinks, dusty mauves (like the famous Pillow Talk) and rich berries. A good matte lipstick gives a more mature, polished feel than the previously favored super glossy looks. Just a subtle pop of color adds the perfect finishing touch.

Sometimes nothing can replace what has always worked. In the world of 12-step skincare routines and retinol “alternatives,” people are finally discovering that simple can be better. Nighttime routines used to consist of cleansing your face, applying a basic retinol, and finishing with a a generous layer of Pond’s Cream.

Often, using too many products can be unnecessary, cancel out, or even stress the skin with overall undesirable results. 2025 is shaping up to be a busy year and women are turning to simplicity. Effective skin care routines can reduce time, effort and money. Also look for multitasking products like Effective self-tanner Isle of Paradise it can give you a healthy glow and even out your skin tone in just a few mess-free sprays.

Hair coloring at home

Well, sort of. The potential downsides of using permanent hair dye at home certainly outweigh the benefits. You may have seen your elders bring home boxed dyes from the drugstore, but it’s best to leave it to the professionals. However, there are more and more color-adjacent products hitting the market that help refresh and add shine to your strands without any risk of damaging your hair or causing hard-to-correct mistakes.

Look for tinted products that give a pop of color and straighten your hair for a salon-like toning result. You can find many brands offering healthy, temporary hair color refreshes and root touch-up systems that are worth a try if you’re trying to cut down on salon visits.
