Nebraska corn and soybean harvest nears finish line

The corn and soybean harvest continues to advance at a rapid pace in Nebraska.

Southeast Nebraska farmer Logan Bredemeier finished his harvest Friday.

“Glad to be done.” I wish it was better,” he says. “We definitely saw a lot of variability in terms of when the corn was planted, whether it was early before our big wet period or for the late-seeded plants. which were hampered by some drought towards the end of the growing season.”

According to the USDA, 79% of corn is harvested in Nebraska, as well as 94% of soybeans. Bredemeier says both crops dried quickly.

“As far as humidity goes, everything was below standards. A lot of our beans were probably between 9 and 10 percent. Some of our corn was also less than 10 to 12 percent,” he says.

The USDA says sorghum is 71% harvested, up 14% from a week ago and ahead of the five-year average of 66%.

Winter wheat is 99% planted, with 81% of the crop raised and rated good to excellent at 34%.
