Iran’s response to Israeli attacks must adapt to the international context. law

Amir Saeid Iravani made the remarks on Monday, speaking at a UN Security Council meeting held at Iran’s request to address the issue of attacks on defensive targets in the provinces of Tehran, Khuzestan and Ilam, which were successfully foiled by the country’s forces. Air Defense Force.

“As a sovereign State, the Islamic Republic of Iran reserves the inherent right to respond at a time of its choosing to this act of aggression, a right clearly affirmed by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations,” he said, echoing comments from various Iranian officials. promise of retaliation against the aggression.

“Our response will be legal and fully consistent with international law,” Iravani added.

He denounced Israeli atrocities as “a blatant and serious violation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations” which led to the martyrdom of four Iranian soldiers and a civilian.

The envoy considered this aggression to be part of the regime’s broader and sustained pattern of aggression through which it is destabilizing the entire West Asian region with impunity.

He cited the regime’s genocidal war in the Gaza Strip in October 2023 and the escalation of deadly attacks on Lebanon as main examples of atrocities.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Iravani lamented that the United States, the regime’s greatest ally, encouraged Tel Aviv to carry out the aggression with its “unwavering and unconditional” support and obstruction of the Security Council’s efforts to demand accounts to the plan.

He considered the United States “complicit” in the regime’s acts of aggression in the region due to the provision of its technical expertise and advanced military systems to Tel Aviv.

The resulting Israeli support and insistence on committing these crimes “seriously undermines regional peace and security,” the ambassador said.

He called on the international community and institutions, including the Council, to take decisive action to vigorously respond to these threats and restore peace and security in the region and the world.

“The international community cannot – and must not – remain silent in the face of such violations. The price of this silence is evident in Palestine and Lebanon, where Israel’s impunity perpetuates a vicious cycle of violence and instability in the region.

Iravani, meanwhile, condemned regime supporters for supporting its atrocities as acts of “self-defense,” while “shamelessly” calling on the Islamic Republic to show restraint.
