Wiebe and Wickenheiser inducted into Dinos Hall of Fame in 2024

The Calgary Dinos inducted their 13th class of Hall of Famers Monday night during a celebration at the Fairmont Palliser downtown.

Olympic gold medalists – Erica Wiebe in wrestling and hockey phenom Hayley Wickenheiser – along with Super Bowl champion Dan Federkeil and star sprinter Sam Effah make up the Class of 2024 athletes.

“I’m so proud to be a Dino,” Wickenheiser said.

“I owe a lot to the University of Calgary and the many people who have helped me along the way.”

Wickenheiser said it was especially “cool” to be inducted into this class – people she knew and saw around.

Wiebe called the night “surreal.”

“I’m very proud to be called a Dino, and very proud to be called a Calgarian as well.”

Gord Franson has been inducted into the builders’ category for more than half a century with the Dinos as a coach, historian, team leader and football fan.

“It’s a huge honor,” Franson said.

“It’s been a great experience working with young men over the years and watching them go off, graduate and go into different fields.”

Les Gramantik has been inducted into the coaching category for over four decades in athletics and as coach of Team Canada in a number of international events.

“It’s an incredible honor,” Gramantik said.

“It’s an incredible group. … It’s a great compliment to what we’ve done.”
