Scary ghouls and drag kings came together to celebrate Halloween at Witch Bitch Thrift’s annual Monster Bash Saturday night.

At the Witch Bitch Thrift Halloween Party, Paxx Headroom and Dexx Delirium – two local drag king artists – joined forces to perform for party attendees. Costumed guests participated in the party by participating in the costume contest and modeling to win prizes.

“It’s nice for people to have a space where they don’t have to worry about drinking,” said Pheo Muncey, event coordinator at Witch Bitch Thrift. Last Saturday’s Monster Bash was a low-key event.

According to Muncey, it’s important to host sober events to include everyone in Halloween festivities, especially when many places often host adults and people who drink.

So many bars and nightclubs around New Haven Get ready for the weekend ahead, alcohol is undoubtedly an essential part of Halloween planning and parties.

“We want this space to be safe for everyone and we want to be as welcoming as possible,” Muncey said.

The event offered complimentary snacks and non-alcoholic beverages to guests in attendance. The drag performances took place in the spookily decorated showroom behind the clothing section of the store.

This year, Witch Bitch Thrift invited two local drag artists to host the event: Paxx Headroom and Dexx Delirium. Both artists are based in the Fairfield area.

Delirium showed up Saturday night with terrible makeup, fancy elf ears and red plaid pants.

“I love sharing my art with people,” Delirium said when asked about his performances. “Performing on stage gives me a platform to share things that I probably wouldn’t be able to share with people otherwise. »

Delirium has been performing primarily around Fairfield for about two years and often puts on several performances per week.

Paxx Headroom, who also made an appearance at Saturday night’s party, made an appearance wearing a blood-covered costume and spooky makeup.

“I was invited by Witch Bitch Thrift. I love their store and I love supporting them. It’s such a great experience to play here,” Headroom said.

Headroom has been performing for four years in the Fairfield and New Haven areas.

In an intermission between the drag performances, the winner and podium participants of the costume competition were announced to the audience. Two participants dressed as Naruto and a giant panda and took third and fourth place, and “Mothman” took second place. A scary clown won the contest and received the grand prize: a $100 gift card to Witch Bitch Thrift. The audience and attendees were delighted to congratulate the winner and honorable mentions.

“It’s so encouraging. It brings in people with similar interests — people who want that safe queer environment,” Headroom said when asked to think about the environment of his shows. “It gives people a space to express themselves.”

With the Monster Bash receiving good feedback last year and this year, Muncey is already excited about the upcoming Witch Bitch Thrift party.

Witch Bitch Thrift is located at 105 Whitney Ave.
