A patient attacks another at Montreal’s CHUM hospital

A 53-year-old man was seriously injured after being attacked by another patient at a Montreal hospital early Tuesday morning.

The Montreal Police (SPVM) received a 911 call at 1:15 a.m. regarding the incident that occurred at the University of Montreal Hospital Center (CHUM).

“The first information we have is that the suspect stabbed his roommate with a sharp object,” said Véronique Dubuc, spokesperson for the Montreal police.

The victim was seriously injured in the upper body, but his life is not considered to be in danger.

Dubuc points out that when the police arrived, hospital staff had already detained the 35-year-old suspect.

A security perimeter was established in the area to allow Montreal police to determine the motive for the attack and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
