My five to watch ahead of the 2024/25 jumping season

Leading jockey Henry Brooke names a new under the rules and a mare who could make hay in the north of England.

IROKO (Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero)

I’ll start with stable star Iroko. I would say he would aim for the National this year and would be a horse we could follow for the National. It looks like a typically national horse; jumps well, travels well and it seems like all systems could work for him. He looks like that kind of horse, he doesn’t run too much in his races and he could be a very good horse in the future for connections.

SEA MOON (Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero)

He won a novice hurdle at Aintree two years ago but hit a leg and suffered a setback. He is back in the yard, looking bigger and stronger than ever. I don’t know if the guys are going to run straight with him now or not, but he felt like a really good horse; he was very green at the beginning, he looked around and he had the impression that there was a lot left in him and I don’t think a year of absence would have done him any harm.

THE PLAYERS’ BOY (Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero)

He had two wins last season and has been on the move all year. He had an outstanding victory late on, perhaps the last meeting at Carlisle, and won it very well. He has a very good page and he is a magnificent jumper and he could be a very good novice this time; I think he could run this week (declared 1:20 a.m. Bangor today) so keep an eye on him.

WENDYWILLDO (Danny Brooke)

She won a bumper at Sedgefield and placed in a good bumper at Catterick. She races novice hurdles for my brother. She jumps very well and will definitely win a little maiden, obviously in the north of England, and she will then be ranked accordingly for the rest of the season. She has good form in the bumpers, many winners have come out of the race she won and stamped the form and she could be a bit interesting up north.

TREE TOP TYSON (Patrick Neville)

He has run in the Irish points and is performing very well at home. He could be a horse that’s going to win a bumper on the first try and then look to become a novice over hurdles from there and he’s a really nice guy.
