Glenn Maxwell reveals why Virat Kohli blocked him on Instagram

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has revealed that Virat Kohli blocked him on Instagram after he mocked the Indian batting maestro following his shoulder injury during the 2017 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Kohli and Maxwell were not the best of friends until the Australian joined IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2021 for a whopping sum of Rs 14.25 crore.

Maxwell said he tried to follow Kohli on Instagram, only to find that he had been blocked by the former Indian captain.

“When I knew I was going to RCB, Virat was the first to message me and welcome me to the team. When I reported for the pre-IPL training camp, we We obviously talked and spent quite a bit of time training together like you did,” Maxwell said during the Willow Talk podcast on LiSTNR Sport.

“So, I go on his social media (to) follow him. I hadn’t even thought about it before that. It never really crossed my mind. I was like, ‘I can’t find him ‘.

“I’m sure he’s on social media somewhere, so I didn’t think anything of it. Not really, maybe he wasn’t good with Instagram.

“I didn’t really understand why he wasn’t coming, and then someone mentioned, ‘He might have blocked you. That’s the only way you won’t find him.’ I was like, ‘Surely not.'” During the 2017 Test series in India, Kohli suffered a shoulder injury while on the field during the Ranchi match. Maxwell imitated Kohli by grabbing his right shoulder.

Kohli, who missed the following Dharamsala Test due to injury, didn’t like it.

“I went and asked him, ‘Have you blocked me on Instagram?’ And he said, “Yeah, probably. It was when you made fun of me during that test match, I think I lost my shit and decided to block you,” Maxwell continued.

“I was like, ‘Yeah, that’s fair enough.’ So yeah, he (then) ended up unblocking me, and we became great friends after that.” “We had quite a fun relationship.”

Since then, the two men have resolved their differences by working together within RCB.

“It was a nice little story to tell as a side note, but we had quite a funny relationship before we played the IPL together. Sharing that dressing room and sharing our experiences, becoming parents, I guess, pretty much at the same time,” Maxwell said.

“From the days when we were both young and brash and going against each other hard on the field. We were also at the forefront of it all, being kind of the orchestrator of like, ‘Maxi, get going face. Say a few words with him and get the young man to do the hard work,” he added.
