‘It’s My Gut’: Frasier’s Wendie Malick Explains the Touching Reason She Probably Won’t Return for the Revival

THE Spawn the revival was apparently popular with Paramount+ Subscription holder, enough to allow him to win a second season. Once again featured Kelsey Grammer As psychiatrist Frasier Crane, the series sees him return to Boston to rekindle his relationship with his son and take up a professorship at Harvard. As Grammer is joined by new characters, some OGs of the franchise also appear. However, Wendie Malick does not intend to return for season 2 on the TV schedule 2024 or any future season and there is a touching reason for that.

Wendie Malick joined the original Spawn during her 11th and final season as Frasier and Niles’ childhood babysitter, Ronee Lawrence. The character eventually ended up becoming the girlfriend of the brothers’ father, Martin, and the two eventually married in the 2004 series finale. The Crane patriarch was played by the late John Mahoneydied in 2018 from throat cancer. And Malick recently explained to TV Insider that the death of her co-star is one of the main reasons why she doesn’t like reprising Ronee:

It’s kind of like when people ask me about Just Shoot Me. Without George Segal, I just don’t think it would feel right. I had such a connection to John Mahoney who played his love interest and eventually married him that I’m not sure I want to return to it. It was a very enjoyable thing, and this season was so much fun and I was honored to be a part of it. And sometimes I think you feel like you’ve pushed your character as far as you can, and then maybe you leave it and savor those memories. Never say never, but that’s my intuition.

It’s certainly a comforting reason not to return to the franchise, and it makes perfect sense. While the Hot in Cleveland former only appeared in 10 episodes of Spawnbut it’s clear that those 10 episodes were more than enough for her to make a connection with John Mahoney. I can understand that the veteran actress would have mixed feelings about returning to the show without her co-star by her side.

Even though the actor himself is gone, his legacy lives on. Also, the the revival paid tribute to John Mahoney by making the new bar where Frasier hangs out be called Mahoney’s. It’s a subtle nod but certainly also a sweet one.

Overall, it doesn’t seem like retaliation is completely out of the question for Wendie Malick. Despite this, the Contraction The star’s “gut feeling” is that Ronee’s story has been told. It’s hard to say how the show would bring Ronee back organically with Martin gone, although I suppose the writers could come up with something.

It was great to see the second season of Spawn renaissance bringing in familiar faces. On the subject, showrunners Chris Harris and Joe Cristalli spoke to CinemaBlend about organically they brought back Roz Doyle(Peri Gilpin), who appears in several episodes in season 2. The series also stars Bebe Neuwirth as Lilith Sternin, Dan Butler as Bob “Bulldog” Briscoe, Edward Hibbert as Gil Chesterton and Harriet Sansom Harris as Bebe Glazer.

As a fan, I say this historic show – which releases new episodes on Thursdays – is one of the best original shows Paramount+it doesn’t matter who comes back or not. Of course, it’s always a treat when OG fan favorites Spawn pop-up, even if it is brief. Honestly, it would be great to see Wendie Malick join them but, if she prefers not to, I hope fans understand her sentimental reason.
