The PWHL hopes to expand by 2 teams for the 2025-26 season

THE Professional Women’s Hockey League wants to develop as soon as possible.

PWHL Senior Vice President of Business Operations Amy Scheer said in an interview with Sportico that the league hopes to expand by two teams for the 2025-26 season.

“It seems like a good time to think about it.” And I think once we have those conversations and we understand what the real interest is, we’ll understand whether it’s the right time or not. Scheer said. “But it was the right time to get the message out.”

The league has six teams: the Boston fleet, Minnesota Frost, Montreal Victoire, New York Sirens, Ottawa Charge and Toronto Scepters – and played its inaugural season last year following the purchase of the Premier Hockey Federation by the Mark Walter Group.

The 2024-25 season will be the PWHL’s first with team names and logos after using only the respective city names for 2023-24. He also crowned Minnesota’s first Walter Cup champion after beating Boston in five games.

It’s unclear where the two new expansion teams will be, but the PWHL will send out a request for proposal to look for new locations in the United States and Canada.
