Assault leads to gun and drug charges against Mississauga man

An assault investigation has resulted in gun and drug charges against a 32-year-old Mississauga man.

Officers from Peel Regional Police’s Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) Unit made the arrest Friday (Oct. 25) following an investigation into an assault incident related to intimate partner violence occurred Friday.

“During the course of the investigation, officers gathered information suggesting that the suspect was in possession of a firearm,” Peel police said.

The suspect was located and arrested.

Police would then obtain a search warrant at a residence near Hurontario Street and Eglington Avenue in Mississauga and seize a loaded Springfield Armory Hellcat handgun.

The 32-year-old Mississauga man is charged with:

-Possession of a firearm knowing that it is unauthorized

-Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm loaded with ammunition

-Violation of the prohibition order

-Assault

-Possession of a controlled substance
