Binge-worthy: Strong performances elevate Hellbound 2’s chilling dystopia

One of the concerns of season 2 is the character of Jung Jin-su, the cult leader who founded The New Truth. Jin-su secretly died in season 1, after being dragged to hell, but was resurrected.

Originally played by Yoo Ah-in, the role was recast with Kim Sung-cheol after Yoo’s real-life drug scandal. Regardless of the issues affecting Yoo’s personal life, he is a strong performer and Kim never reaches the same depths of fear and anger as his predecessor.

Still, Jin-su’s arc is compelling. His time in Hell involved some of his most painful memories, such as his mother’s abandonment and his father’s abuse.

Even after coming back to life, he is haunted by the monsters only he can see. Although still unscrupulous and manipulative, Jin-su’s condescending swagger snaps in season 2. He lives in fear of his visions and desperately seeks Jung-ja, hoping she will validate his version of hell. see.

Jin-su’s character is rich and complex, and makes him a tragic villain who is unlikeable, yet sympathetic.
