Sean Dyche explains Everton ‘rules’ Dominic Calvert-Lewin must follow amid contract situation

The Blues boss, speaking ahead of the game against Fulham, said he would not consider reducing Calvert-Lewin’s minutes until his future at the club was resolved.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s contract situation would not impact Sean Dyche’s decisions on whether to play him, the Blues boss has said.

The 27-year-old is end of contract this summer and has not yet signed the new terms offered to him earlier this year. His future remains a matter of uncertainty which will only intensify as the end of his contract approaches.

However, this situation would not impact Dyche’s thought process on whether to select him or not.

Asked if he would be tempted to explore other options while Calvert-Lewin’s future remains unresolved, Dyche replied before the Fulham game: “I’m not doing that. He’ll just keep playing. Put on the jersey, play hard, those are the rules. Everything else will take care of itself.

For Dyche, the value of Calvert-Lewin in the team’s immediate priority of remaining in the Premier League outweighs potential selection issues. The same approach means he doesn’t believe Everton he would sell the futures contract in January with the goal of earning a commission for himself. Its importance for the team, Dyche believes, is greater than any fees likely to be offered to him in the new year.

The door remains open for Calvert-Lewin at Everton and, for the player, it appears he too is preparing to stay on Merseyside until his contract expires. Speaking recently, he highlighted his desire to find the 13 goals needed to become the Blues’ top scorer in the Premier League and added: “I want etch my name in Everton history forever. This is something I am determined to achieve.

“We now play a small part in the club’s history – with our final season at Goodison. I think there is something special about this place and, for all the great number nines who have played at Goodison and have had the privilege of doing it, I will be the last to carry this burden, it is very special for me.
