Harris distances herself, embraces Joe Biden in closing speech

At the top of her speech at the Ellipse on Tuesday, Harris criticized former President Donald Trump’s recent rhetoric, specifically invoking his comment about the “enemy within.”

“He is someone who is unstable, obsessed with revenge, consumed by grievances and seeking unchecked power. Donald Trump has spent a decade trying to keep the American people divided and afraid of each other,” she said. Harris said.

“That’s what he is, but America, I’m here tonight to say, that’s not who we are. That’s not who we are,” Harris added.

The vice president then called for unity across the country.

“We need to stop pointing fingers and start shaking hands. It’s time to turn the page on drama and conflict, fear and division. It’s time for a new generation of leaders in America.” , Harris said.
