Delhi government approves 24-hour operation of Aerocity restaurants

In a bid to strengthen tourism and boost economic growth, the Delhi government on Wednesday granted approval for round-the-clock operation of restaurants at Aerocity, a major hospitality zone near the IGI Airport. Already home to 4-star and above hotels operating 24 hours a day, Aerocity will now see its restaurants follow suit, providing greater access to various dining options. The initiative mirrors a similar policy in Haryana’s Gurugram, where restaurants have seen revenue gains by opening extended opening hours in exchange for additional charges. According to an official statement, Chief Minister Atishi approved the proposal aimed at attracting more tourists and increasing government revenue through increased license fees. This 24/7 model is expected to not only enhance the visitor experience but also contribute significantly to the state’s revenue, the release added.

The move is aimed at increasing Delhi’s revenue. As a major tourist destination, Delhi has immense potential for revenue growth and with this move, an increase in revenue through license fees is expected.

Notably, restaurants in Gurugram are already enjoying extended hours in exchange for additional fees, which has contributed to revenue growth. Some 4-star and above Aerocity hotels already operate 24 hours a day.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Delhi government approved round-the-clock operation of 111 additional shops and commercial establishments. With this latest round of approvals, the number of establishments authorized to operate 24 hours a day has now exceeded 700.
