Joe Rogan Warned Tony Hinchcliffe Over Puerto Rico Joke: You’ll Be Stabbed

Joe Rogan said he had already warned Tony Hinchcliffe about his joke about Puerto Rico, telling him “that’s the one who’s going to get you stabbed.”

Hinchcliffe, an insult comedian best known for hosting the live podcast “Kill Tony,” sparked outrage Sunday when he appeared at Donald Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden and told a joke referencing Porto Rico as “a floating island of garbage”.

“I have to tell you, this joke kills in comedy clubs. I don’t like the joke, (but) it kills,” Rogan said on Wednesday’s episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience.” “It’s like if you’re Puerto Rican and you hear that in the audience, you said to yourself (groans). But it’s a funny joke. But I told him: “Dude, this is the one who’s going to get you stabbed.” saying, “Joe Rogan always says that’s the one who’s going to get me stabbed.”

Rogan added that political rallies are “a bad environment for comedy,” and if he had sat down with Hinchcliffe before his appearance, he would have told him, “Don’t you fucking dare make that joke.” »

“I didn’t know what songs he was going to do, but then I heard he made this joke, and I was like, ‘Oh, Jesus, Tony. Here it is,” Rogan said.

Hinchcliffe’s joke was not well received and caused several prominent Puerto Rican artists, including Bad Bunny and Jennifer Lopez, to show support to the public for Kamala Harris. Puerto Rican reggaeton star Nicky Jam, who previously attended a Trump rally, renounced his approval of the former president. Following the media storm, Trump’s campaign distanced itself from the joke.

“I think it’s going to stop, like all these things,” Rogan said. “There are people who will always hate someone like Tony, and that will make others love him more. It’s like he’s going through this right now. He weathers the storm.

Rogan — who, like Hinchcliffe, is based in Austin, Texas — also noted the advice he often gives to his fellow comedians.

“I tell all comedians, ‘Never do comedy at anything that’s not a comedy event.’ …Is there going to be a group of speakers, and you’re going to go up and do 10 minutes? Never do that. It’s a terrible setup,” Rogan said. “And it’s a political rally, and you’re making jokes like you’re at a comedy club. Don’t do it!

Rogan came to Hinchcliffe’s defense, calling out people like Barack Obama who quoted the joke “as if it were a statement,” which Rogan said “is really fucked up.”

“You know it’s a joke,” Rogan said. “It’s like going to see a Quentin Tarantino movie (and saying), ‘And then the man killed that woman.’ Like, he didn’t really kill that woman…it’s a movie.

Rogan added that he thought Hinchcliffe would “get through this” and “come back better”.
