Alex Verdugo Addresses Mookie Betts Game 4 Incident to Passionate Yankees Fans

Alex Verdugo doesn’t seem too bothered about the fan interference incident involving Mookie Betts in Game 4 of the World Series.

The sports world is still talking about the two fans who embarrassed Betts during a foul Tuesday night. One man grabbed Betts’ glove and snatched the ball, while another grabbed the right fielder’s other arm. Both men were expelled, then later banned to attend game 5.

When meeting with the media before Game 5, Verdugo downplayed the incident and attributed it to the passion of Yankees fans.

He said: “Maybe one of the most extreme, trying to snatch a ball a little bit. But at the same time, it’s a bit New York, I feel like that’s what we expect here… We expect unique things. In the end, I didn’t think it was too bad.

Verdugo also said he would not object if fans were allowed to attend Game 5, which will be the Yankees’ final home game, regardless of whether they win or lose.

“That’s how it is,” Verdugo said. “I would have no problem if they were here today or if they weren’t.”

This is certainly a new vision of the situation. Most have strongly condemned the fans for their actions, but Verdugo seems to ignore them.

It should be noted that Verdugo is a former Dodger and was traded to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for Betts before the 2020 season.
