Showers are possible a few times in the upcoming forecast, but no major storms

We saw some frost early this morning as overnight temperatures dropped to the low 30s. Skies were generally clear inland and the air was dry, producing cold lows. Although overnight lows will be cold again, no advisories or widespread frost are expected this evening.

A weakening cold front will approach the region on Thursday. Although rain will primarily affect areas in northern Monterey County, there is a slight risk of light rain showers in parts of San Luis Obispo County, especially in the morning. Expect scattered low clouds overnight Thursday, mainly along the coast. High temperatures may drop slightly in northern areas due to increased cloud cover.

The weather is generally dry and cool, with occasional high clouds on Friday. Daytime highs will be slightly cooler, particularly in northern regions. Temperatures will hover in the 60s along the coast and into the 70s inland. Expect some patchy low clouds in the morning, but they should clear around midday.

Weekend weather forecast (Saturday and Sunday):

Significant weather possible Saturday: A storm system approaching the West Coast could bring rain, wind and even snow to high elevations in Southern California by Saturday morning. The exact trajectory of this system is still uncertain, but current indications suggest it could have a mix of impacts:

If the system follows inland as expected: Expect rain to reach most areas by Saturday morning, starting in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties before spreading south. Rainfall totals can vary widely, with areas potentially receiving between a tenth and a half of an inch, although some areas may receive more if the storm intensifies.
Snow and wind at high altitudes: Snow may fall on the highest peaks above 7,000 feet, while coastal areas and valleys may experience gusty winds, making conditions potentially dangerous, especially for travel.

Alternatively: If the storm takes a more easterly direction, conditions could remain generally dry, with cooler temperatures and gusty winds mainly affecting mountainous areas.

Sunday: Rain chances are expected to diminish by Sunday morning, with lingering showers possible in mountainous areas and far eastern Santa Barbara and Los Angeles counties. Clouds will begin to clear during the afternoon, but the weather will remain cooler than average, with highs between 50 and 60 degrees.

Next week (Monday and Tuesday):

Drying and warming up: On Monday, a dry regime returns with clearing skies as the storm system moves east. Expect progressively warmer temperatures early in the week, with highs returning to the 60s and lower 70s in many areas. Outflow winds could develop, causing gusty conditions in parts of southern Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.
