MSU’s Blue Adams reflects on loss to Michigan, looks ahead to Indiana

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State has already faced three offenses that currently rank in the top 25 in passing, and on Saturday it will face another.

No. 13 Indiana is averaging 274.0 passing yards per game, a big reason why the Hoosiers hold a perfect 8-0 record. This will pose a huge challenge for the Spartans defensive backfield on Saturday.

Michigan State secondary coach Blue Adams discussed the threat his unit will face Saturday while also reflecting on the loss to Michigan when he spoke to the media Wednesday.

Below is a transcript of Michigan State coach Jonathan Smith’s opening statement delivered by his presser on Monday:

Smith: “As always, a quick return to the tape, actually, in all three phases, opportunities, but missed opportunities at the same time. And that cost us offensively. Early production with the ball didn’t got to the red zone, and then obviously with the ball at the end of the game, there were opportunities I was proud of at the line of scrimmage, I thought we did some good things, making it physical. in the running game, it’s a great game, I catch it and I run it. But when you score 17, you have the opportunity to do more, you have to do it defensively, physically, tackle well. , I thought we did a good job against the running game, outside of the game just – the quarterback running game hurt us a little bit And some missed assignments there that caught up with us. Was proud of some of the defensive response, tried the onside kick, got a three-and-out when we needed it late to get the ball back and have an opportunity. But the special teams still weren’t there, not our best execution. It wasn’t just the onside kick, with the correct grip, that got poor field position. I think we responded offensively when we started on the 5-yard line and got the score. So just a few missed opportunities in an important and emotional match. I think for me it kind of crystallized Saturday night. Coming into it, I knew it was a big rivalry, emotion and start. But now that we’re experiencing it for the first time, this thing is different, this thing is important, and that’s why it’s so frustrating to think that we could have done some things better. But you have to move on to next week and so on, but you won’t forget, after going through this bullshit, I won’t forget this thing. But we must move on to a worthy opponent. One of the most prominent teams in the country. Do it in all three phases. You look at Indiana, offensively, by doing certain things, you can score points in bunches. Defensively, there are good players running everywhere. A solid plan, and you don’t win every game by accident. One of the hottest teams in the country, we will therefore have to recharge our batteries and regroup. I’m excited to return to Spartan Stadium for a big-time environment and another opportunity to move forward. »
