2 teens and a man charged in armed robbery at Mississauga jewelry store

Two Toronto teenagers and a Markham man are facing charges following an armed robbery at a Mississauga jewelry store last month.

It happened on the afternoon of Sept. 8, police said in a news release Wednesday, at a jewelry store in the area of Mavis and Britannia roads.

At least eight people, several armed with firearms, investigators say, entered the store and forced owners and customers to lie on the floor while they stole “a significant amount” of jewelry and of cash, police said.

The suspects then fled in two separate stolen vehicles, according to the release. No injuries were reported.

Police say three people are now facing charges in connection with the case: a 23-year-old Markham man and two Toronto teenagers aged 14 and 15. They all face charges of robbery, while the teens are also accused of wearing a disguise.

The 15-year-old is also charged with failing to comply with a release order stemming from previous theft charges. Police say the teenager has also robbed two money changers, a jewelry store and a pharmacy since August this year.

The youths cannot be named due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police said they seized three stolen vehicles and other items as part of the investigation.

Investigators say the investigation is ongoing and more charges could be filed.
