Raiders QB Gardner Minshew’s Bengals week

HENDERSON, Nev. — The Las Vegas Raiders (2-6) are trying to regroup after a terrible start to the 2024 season, preparing to travel to Cincinnati this weekend to take on the Bengals (3-5).

This team desperately needs something good to happen. Several key players are out due to injuries and the team is struggling to stay afloat amid stormy weather.

OC Luke Getsy’s early plays storyline worked and the Raiders caught fire.

However, once the storyline was over, Silver and Black proved that they were not improvisers, and creative and effective attacks came to a standstill.

Quarterback Gardner Minshew held his usual press conference today, and we’ve got you covered.

You can watch this press conference in full below:

Below is a transcript of Gardner Minshew’s entire press conference today:

Q: When you watched last week’s film, did you see that you had any offensive growth or hope for the future?

Minshew: “Yeah, I think so, man. There were guys getting open, catching the ball, making plays. I felt like we were doing a good job, once we got in a drive, establishing drives and staying on the field I I thought we did some good things on third down Now it’s kind of those three outs, quick drives How can we. just be more consistent there?

Q: You had to switch centers that you hadn’t worked with much in the middle of the game. How does it work with Jackson Powers-Johnson and how did it happen?

Minshew: “It was great, man. He stepped up, in a position where he hadn’t done much for us this year, which can be uncomfortable, especially for a young guy. He stepped up and did great job we were I got a lot of work today on shots, I just feel more comfortable there, I feel comfortable with him being the passing guy. calls. But he did a great job and he locked in, so I feel really good about him.”

Q: There’s always this big debate about whether it was the play calling or the execution? Specifically with first-and-goals inside the Rams’ five-yard line, and then last week against the Chiefs in the goal-line situation; what do you see in terms of where the failures are?

Minshew: “Yeah, I think in most games you have a chance if you do it right. Guys can be successful in most games. And I think there were opportunities there to do that, and we didn’t. So at the end of the day, we have to look at ourselves. Everyone has to ask themselves, “How can I do my job better?” “I’m happy with the way we’re approaching this week, the attitude of the guys, the attitude of the coaches, I think everyone comes in, puts their work cap on and is ready to come back afterwards.”

Q: What have you seen from the Bengals defense, which is known for putting some pressure on quarterbacks?

Minshew: “Yeah, they put a little pressure on, man. They do a good job. A couple of their DBs are good. (Trey) Hendrickson is great off the edge. So, you have to be aware, you have to have a plan for how they attack you like that.

Q: You have some rookies on the offensive line. What are your thoughts on these guys so far and the growth they’ve shown?

Minshew: “They did a great job, man. We threw a lot at them. It’s not easy what we do in the running game and in the passing game, but they handled it really well. They stepped up and I’ve played (against) some really good players in this stretch of games and I’ve maintained my confidence well, a little bit of swagger. That’s why I feel really good about them moving forward. because they have that confidence and that belief is always getting tighter, man I think we’ve had a lot of different combinations and guys in there, and the communication is really starting to tighten up.

Q: You had a really successful second half against Baltimore. Did you feel like from start to finish, last week against Kansas City was your best game or most consistent game?

Minshew: “I don’t know, man. It’s hard to say. I felt good. I felt like I was giving us a chance on most plays, putting the ball in play, letting our guys work. I think it’s a good thing.” ”

Q: Last week against the Chiefs, Antonio Pierce said something they started doing in the second half was blitzing a lot more often. As a quarterback, is there anything you need to learn more about pre-snap? Are there certain clues, or was this something they disguised until after the shot?

Minshew: “Yeah, they did a good job disguising themselves, man. That’s kind of their modus operandi, and a lot of the time you just have to play hot and understand that they’re going to make it and figure out where your quick answers. I thought we did a good job sometimes, sometimes we didn’t. So, again, the challenge is consistency.”

Q: You can’t run the ball and you average less than two yards per carry. To what extent do you feel more pressure at the idea of having to perform and extend a piece?

Minshew: “I don’t know, man. I think by doing that, some of those quick completions kind of help round out that running game on first and second down. And I mean, at the end of the day, it’s like, “How do you move the chains? How do you get a good third down?” have to throw it to catch up, or vice versa, like you have to catch it somehow and just put ourselves in good positions.

Q: When you say throwing a lot on the offensive line, in what way? Is this communication about blitzes, or what exactly are we talking about?

Minshew: “Yeah, a little bit. I think we do different things in protection, where those guys have to be linked. And, I mean, I think it’s every offense. The nature of the offensive line game , it’s all communication These guys really need to understand how the right side gets their point across on how the left tackle plays out there. So just the fact that they’re related is huge. , man, and I think that’s something that we’ve constantly gotten better at.”

Q: Was it great having Jakobi Meyers back in your offense?

Minshew: “It’s huge, man. I love having Kobe (Jakobi Meyers). He’s obviously a great player, but his energy really helps us, man. He’s an electric guy. He speaks with his noise. It really helps and brings a lot of swagger to our team, man, so, really happy to have him back.
