Rain on Halloween night and early Friday, drying for the weekend

BIRMINGHAM, AlabamaWBRC) – We had a few isolated showers on the radar today with lots of clouds. It’s a good sign that we finally have some moisture. The drought is reaching severe levels and we have a high fire risk in our area. You can expect a mild night with mostly cloudy skies and lows in the 60s.

Most places will remain dry overnight and throughout the day on Halloween; however, showers will return Thursday after 4 p.m. over west Alabama. The ability to have showers also appears to reach the I-65 corridor at 7 p.m. So I’m planning the possibility of a trick-or-treating shower activity. This isn’t the type of rain that will end the drought, but it’s our best chance for showers in weeks.

THE NEXT BIG THING There will be another front late next week and we will monitor developments in the tropics. As for this weekend, expect better sunshine, with highs in the 80s. Dry weather continues through the middle of next week, with a front bringing another chance of showers Thursday and Friday next ones. Temperatures will drop behind the front later next week, with drier air and lows in the 40s.

We will need to watch for a tropical disturbance in the Caribbean. With the next front and trough arriving late next week, there will be a window of time for this system to potentially reach the Gulf of Mexico. So far, no tropical threats, but check for updates. If a system develops, you can find the latest tropical traces on the First Alert Weather app.
