West Sussex County Council provides grants to prepare for floods

Four projects will receive money from West Sussex County Council as part of ‘Operation Watershed’.

The aim of Operation Watershed is to help people work with the council to prepare for or reduce the risk of flooding in the area.

The sum, totaling £215,346.44, was approved by Deborah Urquhart, cabinet member for environment and climate change, on October 29.

Since its launch in 2013/14, Operation Watershed has supported 495 projects and distributed more than £4.4 million during this period.

The largest grant was awarded to the Tarring Flood Action Group, which will receive £76,616.21.

Homes and businesses in Tarring have been affected by flooding which often ravages the area.

The money will be used to replace and add gullies and carry out resurfacing works at various junctions in the nearby Worthing area.

Other groups receiving grants are Wisborough Green Parish Council (£22,841.25), Apuldram Parish Assembly (£61,855.38) and Harting Parish Council (£54,033.60).

Once the money is distributed, there will be around £40,000 left in the Operation Watershed 2024/25 budget.

An additional £1,774,000 will be included in the investment program for 2025/26 to 2027/28.
