Book and course explore theological themes of horror films at Marquette University

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — Marquette University is offering a course called “The Theology of Horror,” allowing students to examine Christian theological traditions through the lens of horror films. Rev. Ryan Duns, SJ, associate president and assistant professor of theology, teaches the course and he joined us to discuss the details on Thursday, October 31.

Father Duns has an upcoming book titled “Theology of Horror: The Hidden Depths of Popular Films,” which analyzes the theological and philosophical themes of horror films. The book explains how films like “The Blair Witch Project,” “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” “Candyman” and “The Purge” serve as gateways to deeper thinking.
