Sudbury businesswoman to lead Cambrian College board of trustees

The Cambrian College Board of Trustees has announced that it has a new president, a new executive committee and new members.

Jennifer Taback has been appointed president for the 2024-2025 term. She will also continue to chair Cambrian’s Circle for Indigenous Education.

Taback (Miikawaadizi Waaskonee Giizis Kwe) is a member of the Shawanaga First Nation south of Sudbury and now lives in Sudbury.

She has worked in the design industry for over 15 years, with experience ranging from research and evaluations to implementation and support for the private and public sectors.

Taback is the co-founder of Design de Plume, an award-winning, Indigenous women-owned creative agency launched in 2009.

Through her work, she has educated clients and the public on issues important to the health and well-being of Indigenous peoples and supported national communications strategies to advance the truth and reconciliation process.

“I look forward to my role as chair of the Cambrian College Board of Trustees, especially at this time as we seek to develop our new strategic plan,” Taback said in a statement. “The previous plan was excellent and laid the foundations that allowed us to aim for more ambitious achievements. »

New to the Cambrian Board of Governors this year are Shannon Restoule, Mark Hartman, Gurpreet Broca and Student Governor Victor Ogochukwu.

There is also a new executive this year: Gianni Grossi (vice-president), Sophia Moutsatsos (chairman of the governance committee), Claire Parkinson (chairman of the audit committee) and Philip Potgieter (past president).

“It is a pleasure to welcome our new executive committee and new board members,” said Taback. “We have four new members in total, who will bring unique experiences and perspectives that will help shape important discussions. »

Recurring board members include Cambrian President Kristine Morrissey, Michael DiBrina, Lori Gauthier, Maxim Jean-Louis, Trevor Lalonde, Kelly Niemela and Jim Phillips.

The role of the Board of Trustees is to provide Cambrian College with strategic leadership and direction, including determining Cambrian’s overall goals and objectives, approving and evaluating the college’s strategic plan, and approving its annual budget.

Cambrian is the largest college in Northern Ontario, with over 100 programs, including diploma programs. Its main campus is in Sudbury, with satellite centers in Espanola and Little Current.
