Lethbridge Hurricanes defeat Swift Current Broncos 3-1

A three-goal outburst in the first period of Wednesday night’s game against the Swift Current Broncos was all the Hurricanes needed to earn a 3-1 home win over the Swift Current Broncos.

So far this year, the Hurricanes have won seven home games and have yet to lose in regulation.

“I really liked our start to the game,” Hurricanes assistant coach Ryan Aasman said after the game. “We were very energetic from the start. We like to play at home. We played well. Our fans are awesome, so we’re off to a good start. A little momentum. But I liked our details and our goals.”

Clicking on and off ice

Their strong home record helped propel the Hurricanes to second place in the Eastern Conference and first place in the Central Division.

The players feel like the team is clicking both on and off the ice.

“I think we get along pretty well as a team, all the boys come together, have fun off the ice and we connect on the ice to get some wins,” said rookie defenseman Ryder Ellis.

One of the main drivers of the Canes’ early season success was players taking the next step in their development.

In 12 games, defenseman Will Sharpe has 11 points, which already matches his point total from all of last season.

“Just being a little more comfortable in the league helps a lot. Goes very far. But you know, you can’t do it yourself. the teammates are here and are great, so everyone helped me perform,” Sharpe said.

Keep working

The Canes know they have to keep working to continue their momentum so far.

They got off to a similar start last year before eventually ending up as the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference.

“They need to be aware of how they operate off the ice in the gym,” Aasman said. “Resting properly is always going to be huge. Managing that and then making sure our details in our game are important.

“We’ve learned that there are many aspects of the game that we have to pay attention to,” he added, “and we have to make sure we compete every night and every day in practice. “

The Hurricanes are back in action Friday night as they take on the Calgary Hitmen at home.
