Firearms found in the mail in Mississauga; Toronto man faces charges

A Toronto man is facing firearms smuggling charges after several firearms were intercepted by Canadian border officers at a large postal facility near Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga.

Three prohibited semi-automatic handguns, five magazines and 12 rounds of ammunition were inside a package that was removed by agents in late August at the International Mail Processing Center on Dixie Road.

Canada Border Services Agency officials said the package of weapons and ammunition was en route to an address in Toronto when it was intercepted.

A search warrant was then executed at a residence in Toronto.

Nicholas Douglas, 34, of Toronto, is charged with:

  • three counts of smuggling a prohibited device
  • three counts of knowingly importing prohibited goods
  • conspiracy with one or more unknown persons to commit an indictable offense consisting of importing a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • knowingly transfer a prohibited firearm

The investigation was led by the CBSA’s Ontario Firearms Smuggling Team, a group of criminal investigators, intelligence analysts and intelligence officers who focus on smuggling of firearms throughout the province.
