Fireworks cause concern in Breslau

Waterloo Regional Police are sternly issuing fireworks safety warnings after a disturbing display in Breslau.

Police posted a video on their social media, showing fireworks bursting on the road in a residential area. Explosions can be seen near cars and homes.

In an email to CTV News, police confirmed the video was taken in Breslau on Thursday evening. They said this “raises obvious security concerns”.

They add that no charges were laid but that “education was provided.”

Police remind residents that local regulations prohibit the use of fireworks outside of private property, including on public roads.

Each municipality has its own fireworks bylaw that specifies when and where fireworks can be set off. Anyone who does not comply with the regulations in their region may be fined up to $400.

Officers can also lay criminal charges if people choose to set off fireworks in a dangerous manner.

Residents are encouraged to contact bylaw offices to report issues that do not constitute criminal issues.

Anyone seeing unsafe or dangerous fireworks should contact 911.
