Parking tickets could result in your vehicle being impounded in this Saskatchewan city

With nearly $1 million in unpaid parking tickets, Moose Jaw plans to tow and impound vehicles whose owners have not paid their fines.

According to a press release, the City of Moose Jaw has a list of thousands of unpaid parking tickets totaling nearly a million dollars.

The city says letters to people with unpaid parking tickets will be sent in the coming days, with a 60-day deadline to pay outstanding fines.

“If fines are not paid within 60 days, violators may have their vehicle towed and impounded until the unpaid fine is paid,” the city said in the release.

According to the city, a bylaw was passed in February authorizing the City of Moose Jaw to seize, impound, immobilize, sell or otherwise process or dispose of vehicles in order to enforce and collect fines for parking violations.

This is called Regulation N0. 5689, the impoundment regulations.

Moose Jaw City Manager Maryse Carmichael said parking ticket revenue helps fund operations such as road and infrastructure repairs.

Details of all payment options can be found on the the city website.
