RCMP looking for two men after ‘serious assaults’ in Swift Current

Swift Current RCMP are searching for two men after a “serious assault” in the city early Tuesday morning.

According to an RCMP news release, officers were called to a residence on 10th Avenue NW and determined that several people had entered the home with a firearm and assaulted two people inside.

The two suspects allegedly stole cash and a vehicle which police recovered shortly after the incident.

RCMP say on Oct. 25, police were also called to an altercation where a gun was fired on Herbert Street in Swift Current. RCMP said no injuries were reported in this incident.

RCMP say both incidents were not random. Officers are searching for two men, Nicholas Belanger, 35, of Medicine Hat, Alta. and Matthew Neufeld, 28, of Swift Current.

RCMP say the two men have been charged with break and enter, two counts of assault causing bodily harm, theft over $5,000, theft under $5,000 and disguised theft in the intention to commit an offense.

Bélanger is also charged with robbery with a firearm, assault with a firearm, negligent use of a firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon with intent dangerous, dangerous discharge of a firearm and failure to comply with a probation order.

RCMP said the two men may be in the Swift Current or Medicine Hat areas.

Police are asking the public not to approach either suspect and instead call the RCMP or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.
