HAINES CITY, Florida. – If you need major renovations to your home Town of Hainesyou may consider applying for the Community Redevelopment Agency’s new residential rehabilitation program.

The program can help give seniors or families struggling on a fixed income some peace of mind when facing long-overdue repairs.

“This house was built in 1924,” said Haines City homeowner Sonya Rivera. “The windows are very deteriorated, and the doors are a little deteriorated.”

This year, she’s applying to the program to get those long-overdue parts of her house repaired. The ARC has $3 million to spend before the end of the year to refresh residents’ homes, not only on the outside with roofing, painting and ADA compliance, but also on the inside with electrical or HVAC repairs.

“Someone may have gotten a brand new roof, but they can’t get in and out of the house because of their knees or a mobility issue. Our residents had a greater need and we were finding ways to meet that need,” said Jazmine Beltran, ARC project coordinator.

The grant is $50,000 per home, which equates to about 60 homes with the remaining funds to spend on someone else. There are certain eligibility factors, including income and living within the CRA limits.

Having benefited from the program last year, Rivera had the exterior painting and roofing done, and she encourages others to apply.

“It’s something that, yes, I wanted to happen, but I never expected the city to give us this blessing,” she said.

The city is also looking for several contractors who can help them carry out the various rehabilitation projects. Interested businesses can call the CRA at (863) 421-3600 x5375 or email [email protected].

The city is currently accepting applications and there is no deadline. They are only two weeks into the new program and have already received nearly 60 applications.
