The jathedar was delivering his customary darshani deori speech from the Golden Temple on the occasion of Bandi Chhor Diwas (Diwali). He focused on Sikh politics amid the affair of SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal awaiting the highest Sikh temporal seat. Badal was held tankhaiya (guilty of religious misconduct) for mistakes made by the party and its government from 2007 to 2017, following complaints from rebel party leaders.

In the presence of SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami, he said, “Sikh politics has been marginalized and its future is uncertain. This dilemma has undermined the uniqueness of Sikh principles, institutions and traditions, which is a cause for concern.

“In the past, issues related to natural resources and fundamental rights of Punjab were at the center of Panthic politics. Political interests take priority over panthic interests. In such a situation, it is absolutely necessary to revive a Sikh polity dedicated to the land of Punjab and Guru Granth – Guru Panth,” he said.

Giani Raghbir Singh said: “Panthic power is divided into small factions. These factions must unite and come together under the platform of Akal Takht Sahib.

“The selfish approach to Sikh politics, which lacks ideology, no longer remains a source of inspiration for the Sikh youth, through whom the next generation of Punjab is finding its future in obscurity,” he said. he added.

Addressing the issue of the 1984 Sikh massacre, Giani Raghbir Singh said the community was still waiting for justice for the carnage.

Along with his supporters, including radical leader Jarnail Singh Sakhira, Akal Takht jathedar Dhian Singh Mand, appointed by Sarbat Khalsa in 2015, also appeared on the occasion at the holiest Sikh shrine. He also delivered his message in memory of the victims of the anti-Sikh violence of 1984. He asked Sikh groups to bury divisions for unity.

Nihang organizations also gathered in large numbers at Akal Takht, as per tradition, to celebrate Bandi Chhor Diwas. Their heads were congratulated there.
