Hellstrom advises starting by making sure your hair is dry or slightly damp, depending on the type of hot brush you’re using. “Most hot brushes are designed to be used on dry or 80 percent dry hair,” he says. “If your hair is too wet, it won’t be styled effectively.” Then part your hair to make styling more manageable and divide your hair into small sections. “This will help the hot brush glide easily and distribute heat evenly,” advises Hellstrom.

Then apply thermal protection. “Before starting to use the tool, always apply heat protection to prevent damage from high temperatures. Adjust the heat setting on the tool (if possible) and choose a temperature suitable for your hair type,” he continues.

Hellstrom then advises sliding the hot brush through your hair, from root to tip. “When using, be careful not to rush the process, let the heat penetrate and smooth the strands,” he says. “You can use the hot brush to straighten the hair or add waves by twisting the brush at the ends. Secure the curl with a hair clip and let it cool for longer lasting curls.
