PREVIEW: Red Wings host Sabers for Atlantic Division showdown Saturday

Detroit is looking to right the ship after its third straight loss, a 6-2 setback to the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday. The game saw the Red Wings fall behind by three goals in the first period, an early deficit that proved too difficult to overcome against the NHL’s best club.

“It’s obviously a disappointing night,” said Moritz Seider, who had two assists against the Jets in his second multipoint game of the season. “I think we expected a different result. Other than that, we weren’t really ready to compete. We faced a team that was ready to take on a little more responsibility and respond after a defeat. It’s just something we couldn’t really handle. The good thing is that we have largely made our own mistakes. We can definitely build on that and find a way to win a hockey game against Buffalo.

One bright spot for Detroit on Wednesday was its power play, which went 2-for-3.

“That’s the confidence here,” Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin said. “We looked through the boards, bought one and the next time we went we knew we were going to get another one. It wasn’t something we had from day one. We had to work on it and build it. I finally had some time with a unit and figured it all out. I hope we can continue like this. It’s a big part of our team’s identity. We can build from that.
