The best high-protein meals at McDonald’s: dietitian

No, you wouldn’t want fries with that.

Sticking to your diet and going to McDonald’s may not immediately seem to go together like burgers and buns, but a dietitian insists that with a little discipline, those who are hungry, are in a hurry to eat. time and are driving can actually have a pretty decent protein-rich meal.

Writing for Eat This, Not That!, nutrition expert and author Elizabeth Shaw doesn’t suggest everyone rush to the Golden Arches for their next meal — but as a working mother of two, she knows “the rat race of chasing meals” and sympathizes with those in the same chaotic boat.

The McDonald’s menu has protein-rich options — here are the best, according to a dietitian. Christophe Sadowski

McDonald’s, says Shaw, can “occasionally deliver a satisfying bite while still offering some redeeming nutritional qualities, including a handful of protein-rich options.” »

Americans are obsessed with the number of proteins in their diets these days, and it turns out, Shaw reveals, that some of the menu items at Mickey D’s are chock full of those things – known to fill you up and keep you full for hours , not to mention its positive qualities for those looking to increase their muscle mass and strength.

For example, Shaw notes, McDonald’s Deluxe McCrispy — not an obvious first choice for a healthy meal — contains 27 grams of protein, more than some gas station protein shakes. (Plus, it also contains fiber, and there’s nothing wrong with a little lettuce and tomato either, what makes it a salad.)

Say no to mayonnaise and watch your salt intake for the rest of the day, the protein pro suggests, and you’ve got yourself a pretty decent meal.

Decent enough, in fact, that Shaw puts the sandwich at the top of his list of protein-rich McD’s must-haves when the craving strikes.

Famous for all the wrong reasons lately, the Quarter Pounder – especially the deluxe version – also rated highly on the high-protein scale. McDonald’s

“Remember, just because a menu item may contain protein, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s good for you. Other nutrients, like fiber, saturated fat and sodium, also come into play,” she warns.

And at the same time, count those saturated fat percentages – you aim to consume less than 22 grams per day, advises Shaw.

In second place comes the Quarter Pounder Deluxe, who has been making headlines lately for all the wrong reasonsbut the hearty burger gives you 25 grams of protein, more than enough for one person per session.

Skip the cheese and mayonnaise and reduce your intake by 200 calories.

Or, skip the beef and grab 10 pieces of chicken nuggets — which aren’t normally associated with a healthy diet, but are eaten daily by countless Americans for lunch and dinner.

Good news: you consume 23 grams of protein. Or, if you opt for a 20 piece, 56 grams – the upper end of the average recommended dietary intake.

Best of all, there are only 2.5 grams of saturated fat and 500 mg of sodium.

Take your order home, suggests Shaw, and toss your nuggs into a big salad for a quick, healthy meal.

Just leave the high-fructose corn syrup-heavy sauces behind — you’re eating healthy, after all.
