Hermannsdottir, Cheesman earn 2024 All-SEC football honors – LSU

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ida Hermannsdottir and Sydney Cheesman represent the Tigers at this year’s postseason SEC Awards, announced Sunday by the league.

The junior duo of Hermannsdottir and Cheesman both earned third-team All-SEC honors for their efforts on the field this year. The award marks the second for Hermannsdottir, as she was named to the SEC All-Freshman team in 2022, and the first for Cheesman in the Purple and Gold.

The SEC Awards are voted on by the conference’s 16 head coaches.

Hermannsdottir has played a central role in LSU’s offense as she leads the team in goals with eight this year. The midfielder from Reykjavik, Iceland is in her third year with the Tigers and now has 19 goals in her LSU career. She played in 18 matches this season, getting the start in 16 of them, and had the most shots on target with 19 out of 33 shot attempts.

Cheesman is a defender from Lafayette, Colorado, who transferred to LSU this year from the University of North Carolina, where she totaled 175 minutes on the court in her nine games played and helped the Tar Heels to two appearances in the NCAA tournament.

Since arriving at LSU, Cheesman has been a key part of the Tigers’ defensive unit, starting at center back in 17 of 18 games this year and totaling 1,386 minutes. At the start of the season, she also played a major role in the attack, creating multiple scoring chances for the team with four assists.

Hermannsdottir and Cheesman will play a major role in the Tigers’ run through the 2024 SEC Tournament, which begins today with their first-round game against Auburn at 2 p.m. CT on the SEC Network.
