British Columbia Weather: Storm forecast for South Coast

Heavy rain and strong winds are expected on the south coast of British Columbia starting Sunday evening, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.

The agency issued special weather statements covering swathes of the province, including Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, Greater Victoria and eastern Vancouver Island.

“A relatively short but intense spell of rain is expected to begin shortly after midnight. Maximum rainfall is expected Monday morning, with rainfall decreasing Monday midday,” ECCC says.

The amount of rain will vary by location, with accumulations expected between 40 and 100 millimeters.

The wind is also expected to strengthen on Monday, although no estimate was provided on the strength of the gusts.

People are urged to prepare by cleaning storm drains and warned that power outages, fallen branches and road collapses are possible.
