HERSHEY — Juniata Valley’s Ella McCrum, Cambria Heights’ Savannah Hoover and Williamsburg’s Ava Dixon each raced to all-state performances and earned top-25 medals in the state’s Class 1A girls cross country race. PIAA in Hershey on Saturday.

Central’s Lanee Berkhimer was a medalist in 2A after already medaling in 1A, and Altoona’s Ashlyn Noce and Central Cambria’s Paige Alexander narrowly missed medals in their rankings.

McCrum was the area’s top finisher with a seventh-place medal in 20:11. Hoover finished 18th in 20:29 and Dixon was right behind her in 20th in 20:32.

Berkhimer finished 17th in 19:44 in 2A, and Bedford’s Chloe May also medaled with a 21st-place finish in 19:51. Alexander finished 28th and helped Central Cambria finish ninth as a team.

Noce missed a medal by just two places in 3A with a 27th-place finish in 19:27. She improved her ranking as a freshman, which was 63rd in 20:14.

“Ash’s training and patience are paying off,” Altoona coach Tabitha Quinn said. “We are incredibly proud of her.”

The Class 3A boys field was dominated by District 6. Mifflin County’s Carter Smith won the individual state championship with a time of 15:41, and State College won the team title, 53-117 , against LaSalle College.

Other strong area finishers included Bella Ascheri of Forest Hills, second in Class 1A, and Emily Fisher of Somerset, second in Class 2A.

In Class 3A, other finishers in the Mirror’s main coverage area included Altoona’s Dean Sunderland (170th, 17:51) and Hollidaysburg’s Rylan Carney on the girls side (173rd, 21:38).

Class 2A finalists included on the boys side Dom Kuntz of Central Cambria (49th, 17:27) and Ethan Haycisak (93rd, 17:52) and on the girls side Alaina Sheehan (88th, 21:25), Keira Link (89th, 21:25), Ruth Remillard (117, 21:46), Alaina Long (128th, 21:55), Morgan Brandis (160th, 22:27) and Abigail Sheehan (180th, 22:56), all from Central Cambria.

In the Class 1A boys race, Logan Gentile of Portage finished 105th in 18:45, Cameron Gallagher of Bellwood-Antis finished 132nd in 19:10 and Brody Pablic of Bishop Carroll finished 193rd in 20:18.

On the girls side, finalists included Josephine White of Portage (39th, 21:29), Ava Pablic of Bishop Carroll (44th, 21:34), Savanna Hershberger of Northern Bedford (46th, 21:38), Blake Pennington (61st , 21:56) and Julie Kraft (112th, 22:50) from Bellwood-Antis and Avery Myers (144th, 23:26) by Bishop Carroll.

Lindsay wins the title

HERSHEY – Central Mountain High School sophomore Addison Lindsay won the PIAA Class 3A singles tennis championship Saturday at the Hershey Racquet Club.

Lindsay, a two-time District 6 champion, earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Anya Rosenbach of New Oxford in the final after finishing second as a freshman.

Lindsay defeated Alexandria Warsing of Parkland in the semifinals, 6-3, 6-1.
