Paul Finebaum rates Hugh Freeze’s approval among Auburn fans after loss to Vanderbilt

Paul Finebaum talked about how Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers have been performing in recent weeks, and things are getting worse after last week’s 17-7 loss to Vanderbilt.

With the loss, the Tigers are 3-6 on the season and 1-5 in the SEC. They are currently on a losing streak at least 5 SEC games in 4 consecutive seasonssomething that hasn’t happened at Auburn since 1927-1930.

These struggles have visibly frustrated and worried the fanbase about the direction the program is taking. Finebaum said on McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning that fan support was becoming increasingly jaded early Monday.

“I think they are mortified by this record, but there is a double benefit to Hugh Freeze and his superiors selling them this merchandise,” Finebaum said. “I can only tell you what I experienced when I was there a few weeks ago, and all I was told was how serious the situation was.”

With games left to end the season against Texas A&M and Alabama, things could get even tougher to end the year. While Finebaum doesn’t necessarily think a decision will be made this offseason, he does believe Freeze will be on the hot seat next year.

“You have to give it time,” Finebaum said. “I think the duration is really an open question. At the rate he’s going, he’ll start next season in one of the hottest seats I’ve seen at Auburn or anywhere in a very long time.
