France’s new government has reaffirmed its plan to cut carbon emissions and promote clean energy, even as it faces greater budgetary constraints and political challenges after snap elections this summer.

“We are in a difficult budgetary situation”, declares the Minister of Energy and Climate Agnès Pannier-Runacher said Monday in Paris as she launched a six-week public inquiry consultation on France’s ten-year energy plan and its national strategy to combat global warming. Reducing emissions from cars, trucks and airlines “is probably one of the steepest issues.”
