I will reverse the exchange rate to one dollar, five cedis

Alan Kyerematen, presidential candidate of the Canage Movement, has pledged to stabilize the economy and reduce the exchange rate below five cedis if elected president.

During his historic march in the Greater Accra Region, Kyerematen was surprised by the current economic challenges, emphasizing his commitment to economic transformation that would address the country’s inflation and exchange rate problems.

“The exchange rate is currently almost $1:17, and that is unacceptable,” he said, pledging to restructure the economy and bring the rate back to a level that would restore confidence and the purchasing power of Ghanaians.

In his speech after the march, Alan identified four major problems facing the nation: unemployment, corruption, Galamsey and the struggling economy.

He assured the gathering that comprehensive solutions to these problems were integrated into his Grand Transformation Plan (GTP), positioning it as the only detailed and pragmatic plan aimed at tackling the root causes of these challenges.

Alan noted that he stands out as the only politician who has boldly presented practical solutions to Ghana’s most pressing problems, thereby building confidence among his supporters.

He said the approach would focus on an agricultural revolution, industrial transformation and the promotion of tourism, which he said were key to job creation and economic stability.

“Through massive investment in agriculture and local industries, we will create sustainable employment opportunities, especially for young people,” he explained.

His plan also highlights that boosting domestic production and reducing dependence on imports will help ease pressure on the cedi.

On his plans to empower the youth, Alan expressed concern over the high youth unemployment rate, which has forced many of them to turn to illegal mining, commonly known as Galamsey, and promised to create pathways for young Ghanaians to access responsible small-scale mining through legal channels.

“I will end the licenses of politicians who have used young people and I will give them to young people to create small mining companies that will belong to them,” he assured.

He added that the government would provide mining equipment and machinery on a work and pay basis, thereby enabling young entrepreneurs to establish themselves in the sector.

The former Minister of Trade and Industry outlined policies aimed at enabling young people to start their businesses and assured the public that his government would support young entrepreneurs with financing, business development training and access to markets to develop their businesses.

“Due to various youth empowerment policies, it will be difficult for young people to complete their education without getting employment or self-employment opportunities,” he added.

Mr. Kyerematen also made his position on political inclusion clear, announcing that his government would prioritize a national unity approach by appointing the most qualified people across all political lines to key positions.

“In my government, if you are NDC, NPP, or someone who is not in politics but can do this job, I will appoint you to be part of it,” he said, stressing that the skill would be the primary consideration.

One of the key promises was that job opportunities would be available to everyone, without political affiliation.

“In my government, you don’t need a political party card to get a job. All you need is the Ghana Card,” he assured the youths, pledging to remove barriers that limit access to employment on the basis of party loyalty.

Alan’s proposed policies, including youth empowerment, emphasis on agriculture and industry, and support for responsible small-scale mining, align with his GTP.

By addressing the root causes of economic instability, Kyerematen believes his administration can put the nation on a path to lasting prosperity.

With a clear focus on addressing the current exchange rate and inflation crisis, Alan’s vision resonates with a nation yearning for economic relief and sustainable development.
